Well, the good news is that the supernova would remain very bright for much, much longer than that. But poor old Orion will lose a limb. But with a stellar nursery and a stellar death site, it will still be interesting.

A sad commentary on modern life. Life goes by whilst people’s faces are stuck to their phones.

I think it got over-shone by that phone.

Orion will have one hell of a dislocated shoulder.

Probably more accurate to say it could have gone nova any time in the last 100,000 years, but I won’t say it.

Love seeing George hang out with them, he’s been learning more and more (hs even has a smartphone, way to go, George)

When stars go super-nova or hyper-nova they can destabilize the equilibrium of nearby stars. Maybe even our own if they are close enough.
