I said something wrong a couple weeks ago. Pickles of The Dick Van Dyke Show wasn’t always an off-stage character. In the first 2 seasons she was played by Barbara Perry, who died last year at 97.
Doing something you love and loving what you do keeps you young at heart! Volunteering (lots of choices to check out in your community), gardening, feeding/watching birds, traveling, that’s just a start. Watching re-runs and “reality” shows slows both mind and body.
I can’t say old age has imparted any special wisdom to me. It has, however, radically altered perspective on a lot of things. I suppose it’s the things I’ve had to unlearn over seven plus decades. As a boy, I learned in school that parts of an atom were the smallest units of matter in the universe. I was taught you couldn’t get any smaller than electrons, protons, and neutrons. Now, we’re told, there are yet more numerous discovered and theoretical undiscovered sub-atomic particles. So the old maxim, “Live and Learn” I have revised to “Live, Learn, Unlearn, Re-Learn.”
And even that could be replaced with the simple, “You Just Never Know.”
Unfortunately not true of Professor Einstein who died in bed with a pencil in his hand and tablet full of scribbles on his lap. If he had today’s scientific calculator he could have solved his Unified Field Theory itch.
I don’t know if I’ve acquired any more wisdom in my old age but I sure am a lot mellower at 75 than I was at 35! I still don’t suffer fools gladly but I’m less reactionary about it.

I think being retired from the work force rat race also helps. I know it helped my blood pressure.

confirming what she was trying to tell Earl on Thursday (https://www.gocomics.com/pickles/2020/03/05?ct=v&cti=2208697) before she woke him up?

It’s because we’re retired and no longer have to play the “corporate game”…

It could be that those that don’t learn how to be serene don’t live as long…

I was doing great until that kidney stone on Friday. I hear I’m in for an experience. This will not pass!

After seeing the same stupidities over and over and over again… the only good response is serenity.

Being retired and having the kids grown, gone and self supporting helps a lot.
