This is one of those moments when Michael just didn’t care. If he cared then he would have just left her alone

Not sure what Mike has in mind here. I’m assuming, I think rightly so, that the box has FOUR sides and Liz is sitting on one side, so just pulling the box up isn’t going to do anything.

Even though we’re both in our 80s, my older brother still loves to push my buttons.

Invisible walls are poor barriers. They seem to keep the people in them isolated more than keeping other people out.

Mike NEVER hit Liz in anger. He teased her like all siblings so, but he was NEVER physical with Liz or April.

Yes, I know the repartee is needed for the strip, but in real life, her following through on her remark that she can’t hear him, and just totally ignoring his comments, would probably be most effective.

I had two older brothers, an older sister, and a younger sister. No one, but no one, was allowed to tease or say anything to the younger sister. You never knew what was going to “hurt her feelings”. My oldest brother picked on the other three of us constantly. My older sister was quite mean and would start fights (to my older brother’s credit, she was a real pill to him – I guess she deserved to be picked on sometimes). My other brother and I were 18 months apart. When we were pre-school age, we did fight quite a bit (yes, physical) but most of that was at the egging on by the oldest brother who thought it was cute that I would win the fights – more ammo to tease my other brother). We ended up as friends and hung out with the same crowds throughout school (he was 1 grade ahead of me). I protected my younger sister, probably too much -she died of alcohol and drug use at the age of 46. I have the best relationship with my older sister and my oldest brother now, although we all pretty much get along. Amazing how a trip to the emergency room at the age of 5 is now a reason to laugh over a glass of wine.

Elizabeth – tell your parents you want to learn martial arts. You can learn enough in a few months that when Michael starts bothering you, you can clean his clock. A few times of that and he will leave you alone. The only reason he bothers you now is he knows there is little retribution if any, so he will continue to pick on you until you do something about it.

On another note, these strips were written in a completely different time, however I have recently been paying attention and now find them to be awfully violent.

The old cartoons we were brought up on as well were also violent, the entertainment value was in how they were getting hurt, or whose snout was blown off. Not to mention first person shooter games, such as Grand Theft Auto etc., which glorify crime and violence.

It makes you wonder, as you look at today’s society, if this is why violent crimes are up with this generation. Movies, tv, video games and rap music glorify crimes and violence.

    Thoughts?
