Now my Senator Dodd did not rearrange the entire banking regulatory commission just to get one good mortgage, he held out for three, including his European getaway. His fellow Senators absolved him of all wrong doing. Isn’t America great?

Political graft is truly bi-partisan. Blaming the situation solely on one party or the other is totally irrational.

Let’s see, as a BOSS leader, she can organize her union to strike. Imagine all of the girls in the US agreeing to not do anything all at the same time! Major impact on commerce, household disruptions, wivess peeved at husbands, etc….

The more sense things make the less dollars they make, it’s an intentional merry go round. Most politicians have no intention of fixing things. They like it mucked up. Governor of this state is a known crook, Republicans voted him in because the only other person running was a woman! and a Democrat…what else could they do?

The secretary is a de facto member of BOSS, too… what will she do about it?

If Egypt can have a democratic uprising, why can’t the U.S.? The nation was founded by an armed uprising against the legitimate government, so no-one could complain about “Patriots” (i.e. rebels) doing the same thing again.

She should have pretended to be one of the Koch brothers, that’s worth a full access pass (it worked in Wisconsin!).

With all the backing she should just run against him. then when she’s in office can do whatever she wants.

I’ve spoken to our representative for free. She made a point of meeting constituents all the time, and was very responsive to the voters. Until some loony shot her in January.

Never met our senators, though – they’re barely ever even in the state, and I believe they do charge admission.

I like the Doctor Who episode where the leader gives his speech from an electic chair & everyone is required by law to vote immediately afterwards, live or die.

I have a modest proposal:

Limit every Senator and Congressman to one term, lifetime. Period.

Limit their pay and benefits to those of someone with a real job in the private sector — someone in upper middle management at a good company; I’m feeling generous.

Enforce the hell out of existing conflict of interest laws if they take a dime from any lobbyist, in any form.

I’d take it, SCAATY_423. The problem is no one has the huevos to amend the Constitution like that. Not to mention it would be shot down instantly by Congress. Then again the Constitution also allows for the President to declare a State of National Emergency and assume total power (scary thought) to force such changes. But again no one has the guts to do it, and do we really want a politician to have that much control? They aren’t exactly known for their ethical and moral fortitude.

One term only– two if military service with honorable discharge.

Plus replace all income tax with the “Fair Tax.” No more black market tax evasion, no more special loopholes for the politically connected, and no giant, expensive bureaucracy snooping in everyone’s bidness!

I humbly disagree with the ones who say you can’t blame a party. Sure you can if they hide behind a mask of being “Christian”. Jesus himself took the Pharisees to task because they claimed to know the law but twisted it to suit their purposes, including helping the rich get richer by “uneven measures” and sticking it to the middle class and the poor. Lying cheating and stealing while wearing a mask of Christianity is the most heinous crime and should always be “called.” the sad thing is that it’s usually non-Christians like Wiley who do the calling instead of the Church itself.

No. I’m not perfect either, but I don’t hold the lives of millions in my hands and lie about what my values are. Those folks are given a special charge for righteousness and special “rewards” for disobedience.

Uff: getting shot at is hardly any proof of real value as a public servant. Merely that you had guts. GW had an honorable discharge. And he failed like a bad light bulb. Kerry had and honorable discharge and he is the leading source of pointless hot air in the Northern Hemisphere. sorry, not a good addendum.

I agree with the fair tax 100%. Also the public’s ability to vote on its use for federal projects. That would get folks REALLY back into government involvement.

Heinlein espoused that some kind (military or other) of service was a prerequisite to vote; thought that was interesting. —– As for some of the lot in charge now, violence is too good for ‘em, and makes the protesters into criminals.

I’m beginning to think about complete shunning as punishment.

Maybe Gene Sharp has some good answers for getting this done even better.

We won’t change their minds, and they have a stranglehold on the money and power they think they want, so we may just have to start over with local means of barter and money that can’t be sucked UP into the gilt tower.

chris: I like the last one. Part of the Law of Moses was for the king to make his own copy of the entire law! I have for a while now found it interesting that the first several amendments could be stated in one paragraph and all together fit in a pocket pamphlet. But shortly after the 16th amendment they start getting progressively longer! It would definitely simplify our laws! I like it!!!

sandfan – Maybe so, but one party consistently goes after the rights of women and girls.

Destiny23 – Because the last time we tried it, they shot us – just as we criticize those human rights violators of today.

Night-Gaunt49 – I would settle for them just having to actually live in the mess that they make – like the rest of us do.
