    @Number Three Today’s strip is slightly funny and a variation of a theme , our HERO Mr Andrew Capp main concern is getting his booze , the paramedics carting the drunken sot are not amused :o) my avatar is a photo of our Calico Queen Bella on one of the rare times she is awake , wishing you a nice day and congratulating you on your 18th pint of life saving blood , how was your day? ours should be very busy but calm I hope BCNU pal.

    Back in October, a racecourse called “Buster’s Dad” in reference to Andy brought some comments from UK readers about Buster Comic. On 30 October, I mentioned that that was the date on the final issue of Monster Fun Comic and that it was an appropriate date as it was just before Halloween. Monster Fun joined Buster and Buster Comic became Buster And Monster Fun Comic for a while.

    Today, 10 March, is the date which appeared on the first issue of Shiver And Shake in 1973. This was the comic which prepared the UK for Monster Fun. Frankie Stein appeared in both comics and his popularity was probably another factor which led to Monster Fun.

    I remember seeing Shiver And Shake advertised on TV when it first came out. In the TV commercial, an animated ghost called Shiver said “My comic’s haunted” and an animated elephant called Shake replied “Mine’s a real solid scream too.” The front cover of the first Shiver And Shake had the ghost and the elephant speaking these lines.

    Shiver And Shake was also partly a response to the success of a two-in-one comic called Whizzer And Chips. The “Shake” section formed the middle half of the comic as “Chips” formed the middle half of Whizzer And Chips. At the time that Shiver And Shake started, the “Chips” section of Whizzer And Chips had a strip called “Ginger’s Tum” on the back cover and featured a ginger tomcat stealing food. The “Shake” section of Shiver And Shake had a comedy World War II strip called “The Desert Fox” on its back cover which featured a red fox stealing food from both Allied and Axis troops in North Africa during the Second World War which loosely ties in with Reg Smythe’s and Andy Capp’s wartime experience. Both “Ginger’s Tum” and “The Desert Fox” where drawn by Terry Bave and “Ginger’s Tum” was later reprinted in Buster as “Ginger”.

    Are there no “open container” laws in England? Does anyone believe Andy would obey one in the ambulance? Does Andy believe EMTs would let him have a beer?

    I can understand that, they don’t serve beer in Urgent Care.

    @Afficionado

    It’s not my 18th pint of blood I’m donating. I meant that I’m giving blood on 18th March. 8 days from today.

    I just stayed at home today. We have strong winds yet again.
