My boy cat will rub on the floor and the furniture, then come and put his nose on me. We both get a small shock and then he runs around the living room three or four times at full speed. He’ll do it three or four times in an evening. I’m beginning to think he likes it. As soon as the temperatures and humidity come back up he’ll have to find another hobby. His sister doesn’t like shocks.
Hairs—tiny, tiny ones—sticking straight up, three little blue lines floating, and some tiny white jags on Arlo’s hand: So that’s how to draw cat static! Wow!
Our cat cringes in anticipation just like Ludwig. I try to keep one hand in continuous contact during petting to avoid static buildup. But there’s no avoiding the initial shock.
Just bought my first home with a whole house humidifier… and it’s well worth it. Though, like flagmichael, I long ago developed the habit of keeping myself grounded when it matters. It is nice not to have to be so careful about it now and the cat sure appreciates it… 8^)

That’s the static quo, Ludwig.

Arlo, rub your stocking feet on the rug and go kiss Janis. See if she gets a charge from your kisses.
While not on purpose I have occasionally shocked/surprised my wife when I give her an unexpected kiss. ;-)

Our smaller blue cat tends to generate more static electricity than the other cats
She loves her pet-pets, but if she’s sparking she’ll bite your hand as if it’s your fault

Arlo’s cowlick is funny. BTW is there a special name for a “cowlick” that’s at the front?

I hate when that happens! I’m a VERY static-y person. I guess electrifying hahahaha
