There’s plenty of worthwhile unmanned research to be done in space. But there’s no more reason to send humans into space than to spend money trying to turn humans into superheroes. Some stories, no matter how exhilarating, are better left as stories; not everything fun to imagine is worth trying to make real.

Couldn’t you use the Mars Rover’s dish? Sure, you’d only talk to NASA, but that’s something.

And don’t even get me started about the roaming charges.
