My son is a hydro engineer. He designs and builds dams. On one dam he developed a system to trap fish at the bottom of the dam and then transport them to the top to release them. It worked so well, that the state had to extend the salmon fishing season because of overpopulation.
His daughter who was about 8 at the time said that since fish swim in schools, that the device should be called a “school bus.” That became the unofficial name for the device.
