Oh no, is this the baseball storyline?

Not gonna spoil the ending but…let’s just say this is probably the most heartbreakingly “real” of all the C&H stories.

how could one not hear the end-of-recess bell AGAIN when he just got on the playground?

Either way, have fun while you still can, Calvin.

Schools are closed, so Calvin’s the only one on the playground.

Solipsist that he is, Calvin doesn’t even notice the absence of other children…

I believe he’ll have an impromptu meeting with the principal!!

Miss Wormwood’s probably enjoying a quiet class for a change.

Y’know, assuming he could get his dad to drop him off, he could  just go in early to get better access to the playground. What are the odds?

The second you said, Calvin.

Doesn’t he know he should be at home social distancing? #stayathome ;-)

Imagine there had been a stay at home order with school closings during the time this strip was running “live”. With Internet access still not something that could be taken for granted, even at the end of the run, Calvin could have gotten out of all his school work. Until, that is, his parents decided to home school him for the duration.

I know where I’m putting my money…

Maybe he is dreaming & doesn’t realize he is at school on a Saturday.

I always loved swinging!

I remember those old swings, with just a flat board for a seat. Our goals were to swing high enough to go over the crossbar above (never made it) or to jump off and clear the drainage swale behind the swing set. Went back after the bell wet many times…

A friend and I were regularly late back to class. We HEARD the bell—-just ignored it!

maybe he’s at school and the school is shut down

Or it could be that the school is closed because of the coronavirus.

Probably the latter.. Cartoon was obviously penned before the social separation policy that close playgrounds.

Calvin swings so far that the middle two panels fly out of the strip.

I think it’s Saturday, Calvin.

Indefinite recess time. This is what got me through the 3rd grade…..twice.

Missed the end of recess bell or totally ignored it. Kind of hard to miss all those kids leaving the playground to go back inside.

I’m on permanent recess.

Or everyone is social distancing.

Better than having ghost children on them…

Oh boy… this storyline… I’ll be back sometime after Calvinball is introduced.

Either way, you are enjoying. Why bother about the reason?
