Somebody once warned me that my phone could be used to spy on me. I replied that they would die of boredom.

Wow. A rare moment of self-awareness on Toby’s part.

How many listeners does it take to spy on 300 million people?

When you’re a teenager, you worry about what everybody thinks of you.

When you’re in your twenties, you dare them to tell you what they are thinking about you.

And when you hit your forties, you realize nobody was thinking about you anyhow.

I believe they do listen. At work, the girl at the desk next to me was talking about removing her eyelash extensions over the weekend, and that evening, I saw ads on my phone for salons and eyelash extensions. I don’t have them and have never shopped for them. So why was my phone suddenly showing them to me?

You may not care now, but what you do now can be held against you in the future, especially if you run for office.
