The short answer is that it makes for a very big mess to clean.
And, by the looks of it, kills your microwave. If you’ve got an instance of where your microwave door is getting launched off like that, most likely the rest of the microwave’s biting it too.
Actually, a microwave exploding like that is very dangerous to be around, so I’m glad Amelia didn’t stay in the room to see the results up close, and I hope no one else was in that back room when it blew.

I miss MiniCon, with its annual “Don’t Try This At Home” panel. People would bring their old microwaves. I also learned about dropping a lit match into a glass bottle of whiskey you’ve just finished for a brief, entertaining blue flame. Never got to try that at home, because I never have such a bottle to finish.
