I once visited a place where I had lived twenty years earlier. My main reaction was, “Where the hell did all these trees come from?”

My mental archives have developed dry rot. And serious distortion. It’s very strange to find paperwork for something I remember doing years ago … and discover that my memory is not just wrong, but completely wrong.

I planted an Elm sapling about 8 inches high in the back garden of my girlfriend’s mother 44 years ago.

Now it is absolutely gigantic, I’m proud of my “baby”.

Surely the second best time to plant a tree is 19 years ago (to the nearest year…)?

I have never really understood that saying.

I thought Mrs. Olsen said she was having a rough spring. Memory doesn’t make that go away. How would it help to start a journal?

Maybe Frazz should ask what’s been happening that’s rough. Like a normal human being.

“The worst time to have a son is 18 years before a war.” Linda Ellerbee

Of course, now you’d have to update that to “a child”; probably the worst example of progress and equality there is……………………

Frazz17 hrs · This actually did come from the Frazz archives, although that’s not where it originated. I stole it from Mary Barra, who seems OK with the appropriation; the original art is hanging in her office. But I didn’t have to go to the archives or to General Motors headquarters for it; I keep the line fresh in my head full time. It’s a good one to live by. Especially if you feel like you’ve been living an awfully long time getting to a few too many things on the late side.
