Ok, here’s the deal. These guys never win any games. So what is this championship all about? Only explanation, this is Charlie Brown’s nightmare, where he balks in the tying and winning runs to lose the championship. Only possible explanation. It’s a dream…

For other non-fans of baseball, there’s a baseball-specific meaning of “balk” that I had to look up: “make an illegal motion, penalized by an advance of the base runners.”

So a balk is anything the pitcher does that the umpire feels is meant to trick the runners on the bases. For example he could act like he’s about to throw the ball but not actually throw it. When the umpire calls a “balk!” all the runners on bases (whether it just be 1 or like in this case the bases are loaded) are allowed to go to the next base even if the next base is home.
