    I think this is the first time Charlie Brown’s baseball hero is actually named. There is a reference to a ‘Joseph Schlabotnik’ in the Feb. 22, 1957 cartoon, but it’s a name that Schroeder invented for a fictitious pianist. I suppose Schulz found the name too interesting not to reuse later.

    I knew Lucy had a reputation as a cranky fussbudget but now that I’ve been reading Peanuts from the beginning (it started decades before I was born so all these strips are new to me) I can hardly believe how horribly mean she is sometimes!
