I can relate to Sonny right now!
I remember lots and lots of moments like this, with just the urge to go away.
In the original run, this ran as two strips (the top row of panels were one strip, and the bottom row another), but were combined for the remastered edition. (Hence why there’s a bit of a disconnect between panels 4 and 5.)
It’s so sad when a young lad feels the need to leave his own birthday party.
Aw, Sonny.
Sonny’s bag (seen here again) is very apropos. Tetris’d again, and just doesn’t quite fit in.
Geez Sonny, don’t grow up weird.
I just noticed in panel 5… the short girl in the blue bathing suit has opened her eyes wide.
I think she had her eyes on Sonny when her group came over, and Sonny is walking away!!
I think she is shocked/surprised/disappointed.
Walking out on his own celebration?
