AMEN to that one—it’s as if Peppermint Patty automatically assumes, that this girl named Lucy, whose acquaintance she is just making, doesn’t mind being called ANY name, or nickname. Same difference with a girl whose real name is Elizabeth, say, who goes by Liz, and someone she would meet for the first time, would assume she would not mind being called Beth, or Betsy(just because they, too, are nicknames for Elizabeth.) But that was Peppermint Patty for you. She did, however, call Lucy “Lucy” in the Peanuts TV specials.

But then again Lucille really is Lucy’s full first name. She has been referred to by that name long before Peppermint Patty came along, though I gather she doesn’t like it. The golf championship sequence in May 1954 (also the only time the strip ever depicted adults) indeed gives her full name as Lucille van Pelt.
