Rita puts on a facade every day at work. She does not want the staff to know she has a heart and cares because she thinks they would take advantage of that and she would lose control and their respect of her(fear of her). She THINKS they respect her, but actually they laugh at her and pity her.
Many have lost and will lose loved ones – that is more than sad. On the other hand the Darwin Awards will be swamped with contenders this year from the “leave-your-house-anyway” group – the world will be better for that…
It took World War 2 to bring the U.S. out of the Great Depression – I wouldn’t be so blase about being able to restore our economy. If even half of the 22 million people who have so far lost their jobs don’t get them back, that is 11 million people (with, in too many cases, families) who will lose their homes. Let’s think about how many will get sick and die from poverty, crime, and suicide (and that is not from a theoretical model such as was used to justify breaking our country, but established history).

You can’t rebuild a business if there aren’t enough people left to either work or purchase.

I wonder if Rita likes the idea that they took off U.S. acres and Garfield minus Garfield and didn’t even leave the old ones to read.
