Given her reaction in the last panel, I’d say that she’s dreading the thought of tracing another complicated family tree as much as any of you are. My guess is this is the humorous punchline on the whole arc.
On another note, it never ceases to amaze me how many people complain on here about the slow pace of the stories. This is Gasoline Alley. I’ve been reading it on here for about two years now, and there has not been a single story that moved quickly. There never will be! If you don’t like that, then just admit you don’t like Gasoline Alley and stop wasting your time reading it.
He looks like a traveling salesman. Beware, Clovia.
All during the Gertie and Byrd story, people complained and wanted it to be more about the Wallets. So we have a Wallet family arc and we get complaints. I hope Jim doesn’t pay attention to any of it.
marvee and WinnieNicklaus, I think the psychology of heckling is a fascinating subject. I’d like to find a good book about it. I think heckling is rooted in the desire to syphon attention from the person who drew the crowd to the location by claiming to be of superior talent/wit/intelligence… but I suppose there may be different motivations and needs involved for each heckler.

Oh heavens! Please Jim, NO! We’ve spent more time than necessary tracing the Wallet tree! Please let’s not trace the Skinner side. Anything but that!

If she’s looking at the Skinner family tree, she’s tracing Slim’s ancestry, not her own.
