I’m reminded of a fine short story by Leigh Richmond: Poppa Needs Shorts in which a little boy totally misunderstands what’s going on, but does exactly the right thing anyhow. Hunt it down if you can.

I live in SW Florida north of the Everglades. The manatees are not in the Everglades (too shallow and swampy)….we see them in the intercostal waterways. Many are injured by boaters who ignore the signs for “Manatee Zone”, where they must drive with no-wake. They are magnificent creatures.
