I am with John on this one. A freshly bathed baby does smell pretty sweet. It’s even better when the father is the one that bathes the baby.

That’s definitely intense and special!

Obviously John you’re ignorant of how much work it takes to create that “perfect home atmosphere”.;/

Been there. Was a homemaker for around 5 years. Craved adult company and my husband was about the only adult I saw daily until family gatherings or meeting friends out for the night. Needed adult conversations. I get Elly. @Templo S.U.D. No adoption. John only need to take our out on a date or her girlfriends need to take her out for a coffee and have girls’ talk. She needs to get away from the baby for a few hours.

An hour is wonderful. No relief isn’t.

I think every stay home mom has been in Elly’s place some time or another.

huh- I think this is the very first time that baby April has looked like “April”- we usually have just seen a tiny baby with squinty eyes, or her mostly covered and bundled up- that looks she gives John is very much like the face she’d have for the next 10+ years- short brown hair, baby fat, bump for a chin, big cheeks.

I don’t recall seeing that exact face until now.

One of the all-time hilarious strips! So, so funny. And so real.

As much as we love them, we all need to get away, even if its only for an hour.

No Elly wants some time for herself. Being with kids demanding your attention all day can be very exhausting.

I get it. The line between Motherhood and slavery can be pretty thin if you aren’t careful. It’s all a matter of attitude and wine.

What seems to be missed: in the first 3 panels the daddy is really pleased with the kid, but it’s mommy that has busted her butt to get her kid to be perfect. This is an older strip, but it was very true 30ish years ago.

Lynn’s Comments:

I adored my young children, but there were times I was so desperate for adult company that a trip to the grocery store, alone, was like a holiday!

Another reason that grandchildren’ are way more fun than children, they can be given back to their parents.

…Oh…..those words! ;o]

This one gets my hackles up. I hope that there are a few more out there like me.

Which, funnily enough, is exactly what I’m saying after 78 days of quarantine.

John, like most men, is clueless about how women feel.
