At my age I wish someone would appreciate it when I burp. ;-)

I remember going through that exact experience. It took FOREVER to get my son to burp, and then he would also upchuck at least half of the feeding. :P. The doctor assured me that he wouldn’t starve, but it was very distressing to a first-time mom. :(

I took care of my brother’s after dinner routine and I am with howtheduck she should have a burping towel back there. In grad school for the Master’s program in child development you had to work with the infants (6 of them), then the year old; then those terrible 2’s (6 of them), then the 3’s with why why why and then PTL the 4s….can you guess which group I picked to work with even with 8 to 9 of them.

Now the medical community is saying that burping is unnecessary. You’ll never get me to stop doing it though.

    Lynn’s Comments:

I have gone out to a public gathering with baby barf on my back. Thank goodness for the kindness of other moms who have keen eyes and wet wipes!

My brother would invite his friends over to hear our little sister burp after a feeding. She would have won the belching contest in any frat house.

Maybe because April did an actual burp. When Michael does it, he says “BARACK!” Is that when burping is done with a Canadian accent, or was he trying to say the name of the 44th President while belching?

So that brings up a good point. At what point does burping become socially unacceptable(or at least impolite)? Not burping your baby, but expelling your own gas.

I would hold them at arm’s length, balanced in my hand. They’d wiggle for a bit ’til they found their balance, straighten up and out came the burp!

One of my nephews was hard to burp. My mom taught my sister, and the rest of us, to sit up straight in a firm chair, and rock against the back while patting the baby’s back. Works like a charm.
