John paid for the apartment but it looks like he put Fiona on the lease so the management gave her the credit balance instead of John. Wise to just let it go.

Yay! The return of Fiona Brass, the best character this comic strip ever saw! After seeing the comic strip where Elly treated John like she treats the dog, I am ready for a breath of fresh air.

If you weren’t ready to permanently say “good riddance” to her before, John, I bet you are now!

Hey…. at least she must have paid her next month’s rent, and also cleaned the place up enough to get the deposit back.

It’s far better than getting a bill.

 

She could have given notice, or just stopped paying rent… using up the deposit to cover the last month that she stayed there…

and then left the apartment filthy or even trashed.

 

If his name is on the rental agreement, he could be held responsible.

Unfortunately, it happens more than you’d think.

 

As for the character… I’d as soon never see her again.

I don’t like the way she’s portrayed… and I’ve met too many “Fiona’s” in real life.

When I did the Aunt Fiona series, I received a number of letters from readers who asked me how I knew one of their relatives so intimately. You can make stuff up, but the truth is, you don’t have to!

No sympathy here. He mishandled this from day 1.

No good deed goes unpunished

Of course she did.

Doesn’t anyone think that the apartment owner should have paid the rebate back to whomever it was who rented it in the first place? he should go after the apartment owner for giving the rebate to the wrong person!!!

If she’s going to cook, DON’T EAT THERE!

If there was a lease she would be penalized for breaking it.

Does anyone consider the concept of a gift? Once you give a gift (in this case in the form of 2 months rent), it is the property of the recipient to do with as she pleases. If Fiona chose to live elsewhere and there was a rebate on the unused rent, it is hers. There’s no ambiguity here. There were no qualifications on the gift. John should have no expectation of receiving the money back. Fiona’s thanks were a nice gesture on her part.

Most people know their relatives that are slime that never pay anything back…

That’s what some relatives are for. They make you glad that they don’t visit often.

Best 700 bucks he ever spent.

She was some piece of work! Kidnap her cat(?) and hold it for ransom.

It was expensive but hope you learned a lesson, John.

You can’t expect someone like Fiona to consider returning money in any case.

Often when you loan someone money you end up never seeing them again. Often TOTALLY worth it.

John, trust me it was worth it.

That’s $700 you wouldn’t have had to pay towards bail after sending Fiona into the next world permanently. Consider it an investment in a quieter future.

Sounds like My daughter in law. When things got rough in her marriage she found another man. And another after that, then moved in with a daughter. Master manipulator. Never worked though.
