    Barney knows that if he hangs around with ‘important’ people, he’ll lose his “infallible genius” mystique - they’ll catch on to him. By hanging out with Clyde, Barney maintains the mystery.

    He just wants a place where he is treated as a real person, accepted for who he is, and not have to be what others expect of him.

    Besides, with Clyde, Barney doesn’t have to expend the effort to maintain the illusion.
