My father’s loathing for the one’s he got on a drunken spree in the Navy gave me a lifelong loathing for them too. Our skin was not made to be a billboard or a pallet or an etch-a-sketch.
Before microchips were available, we had our dogs tattooed (on their tummies) for identification. Of course, the tattoos weren’t near as pretty as Fred’s is. But it was comforting to know that there was a way to identify them as our dogs, even if their collars and tags weren’t on.
