RED in chess???? Isn’t that checkers?

why has Paige that face in the first table? Drawing cloned from another story?

“Through the Looking Glass” had red and white chess pieces.

I assumed she was yawning in the first panel–bored out of her skull at the concept of chess. Yes, red in chess? Maybe the game was made by Ma Parkers’ Brothers or Wiltin’ Sadly.

Red and White used to be the standard colors for Chess I think, while Black and Red are used for Checkers. WildSow is right about “Through the Looking Glass.” Chess sets these days come in a variety of colors, including Black and White, Beige and White, Brown and White, Brown and Beige, Black and Beige, etc. Specialized sets will even use colors like Blue, Purple, Red, etc.

I think the first panel represents a yawn, like Skeeterhawk says.

I think the first panel shows that she’s excited. Or like another said, yawning. Nah, excited.

About chess. Yah. Right.

When I was a kid, we had a set of cheapo plastic chessmen that were red and black! Judging by the packaging, they were probably made in the 70’s…

I have a complete set of the old Avon bottle chess pieces and they are Brown and Silver OR Silver and Brown, unless you switch the caps, then they are (all) Silver and (all)Brown. The only other set I ever had were Red and Black. A cheapy set from the 60’s…

Over a collective 90 years, my father and I have owned all permutations of black,white and red chess and checkers sets!

Black and white checkers are called “draughts.”
