All the rules that I’ve seen say that a mask is required when you can’t maintain a 6 foot distance from others. It looks to me like Betty & Bub had no trouble doing that today. I take my mask of while outdoors in those situations, since it isn’t doing any good.
I primarily use my mask for going to the store, including walking to and from my car. I definitely wear nitrile gloves when in public where other people will be. If going for “walkies,” I simply keep clear of any other people that I may come across. I usually walk where “bumping into” other people is highly unlikely – like my semi-rural neighbourhood.
My daughter, the doctor, tells me that masks are not to be worn for more than a few hours without being washed; as bacteria from your breath build up to infectious levels. My experience, in using the same dirty old N95 for decades as a dust mask and now a corona-19 mask, does not support this.
If you are out in the sun enough to cause these kind of tan lines, you are doing it wrong. They should have hats and sunglasses on….and sunscreen. Of course, it’s just a comic strip and then there would be no humor.
Why has everyone missed the point of her seeing her reflection in the pond vs. her reflection in the mirror????! It is futile to argue about wear or not wear a mask. As a cancer survivor who just completed 18 cycles of Chemo plus 6 months of intensive double doses of Chemo, I say PLEASE, wear a mask. I am unable to go out much, maybe twice a month due to my compromised immune system.
Always wondered how heroes such as Batman and The Flash managed their tan lines. By comparison, Superman and Spiderman would have no concerns in that area.

The next crisis will be Lint Lung from wearing paper masks too much. Especially those who wear one when alone in their car.
