Um… You have to clean the fish tank too. You can’t use fresh tap water either. My sister found out the hard way. Cleaned the tank and replaced the water with fresh tap water and killed all but one guppy. Luckily the guppy was pregnant and repopulated the tank.
And if you keep them in a “huge plastic box”, instead of a metal cage or a glass terrarium with a metal cover, then they will chew a hole and get loose in your house. The pet stores don’t tell you that while they are trying to sell you the really cute and really expensive plastic “habitats.”

Our family went through many, many “pocket pets” and the house ends up smelling of piddle, or fresh wood shavings (alternately.)
