Absolutely not!"<BR><BR> Lucy walks off the hill and says, "If there were, they most certainly would have tried to contact me!"<BR><BR> Linus stands on the hill alone and says, "That settles that!"<BR><BR>

Yep, it seems that on January 2, 1973 there were no people out in space, unless there was an undocumented mission of some kind. The last people in space at this date were the Apollo 17 astronauts, who returned on December 19, 1972, and there wouldn’t be anyone up there again until Skylab launched on May 25. The Soviets didn’t send anyone up again until September 27, two years after the disastrous end of Soyuz 11 in 1971, where three cosmonauts died when the air leaked out of their spacecraft.
