Could somebody please explain to me how LPs are played backwards anyway? By the ordinary person, without a bunch of high-tech gear? I’ve gotten as far as understanding that the songs can be recorded from the LPs (Anybody remember 45s?) to tapes, but I’m lost beyond that, because I don’t see how the tape recordings can be played backwards either. And I’m talking with 80s technology, since it seems like I first heard the notion back in the 80s.

annamargaret1866, you just reverse the direction of the turntable, or tape player’s motor. Some tape players have reverse built in, and you can also move the turntable backward with your finger at a steady speed. That’s pre-80s tech, too.

Actually, if you have a variable speed turntable, just put the lever between speeds. Best way to move the record backward is to use a pencil with an eraser.

    Bad joke warning:

What do you get if you play a country/western song backwards?
