Being a DC area resident up until 2011 (what the HELL I’m doing up here now in the Thousand Islands is a long story), I remember Count Gore de Vol on my local UHF channel, WDCA. He would host many obscure horror/sci-fi movies and cult classics like Carnival of Souls along with a generous amount of comedy shtick.
The original ‘Invasion of the Bodysnatchers’ had a totally inverted reaction for me. I’d be like laughing at the campy, cheesey beginning, and totally creeped out by the film’s end.
Lucky for me that the Creature Features on KWGN were uniformly lame. The closest I got to having a reaction was feeling bad for Lon Chaney Jr.’s character at the end of one of the Inner Sanctum Mysteries. Not saying why, so as not to spoil a trifling melodrama for anyone.
The only time I watched The Angry Beavers, they were scaring themselves over watching the late-night monster movie, and the one they were watching might as well have been on KWGN (see above). Every time we see any of the movie, the only thing happening is one character is droningly explaining something to another. Come to think of it, I should give that show another watch: That one was brilliant.
