Question by a perplexed foreigner: do jury decisions have to be unanimous?

I can do a pretty good Eastern Screech owl call. Had one answer the other night, impressed the heck out of my grandson.

Actually, wouldn’t Joanie’s connection with Lacey Davenport, and Jeremy’s (unsuccessful but persistent) attempts to have a connection with Lacey, automatically disqualify him?

I had forgotten how much I hated that character, especially after he and Lacey Davenport married!

Hey this is birder discrimination, I object!

Having lived in Minnesota, I can testify that loons don’t sound anything like “phwoo,” or anything like egrets.

I recommend the old classic with Henry Fonda, Twelve Angry Men. Actually, I think it’s been remade several times, all excellent, all focusing on how a jury works.

There seem to be a lot of Jeremy’s about these days though, half baked prallocks who believe anything except the truth.

They definitely have a loon on the jury.

Californiamonty: Your definition of the two types of juries and their roles and function is incorrect. Grand juries determine on whether there’s a reasonable cause to believe that individuals or other legal entities have engaged in criminal conduct. If so, the case is set for trial before a petit jury or judge. Grand jury proceedings are not open to the public, with only prosecutors and, occasionally, a judge being present. If the grand jury decides whether there is reasonable cause to believe that there has been criminal conduct, an indictment issues. If a trial is held, it will before a petit jury or a judge, depending on the nature and level of the offense and whether the defendant waives its right to a jury trial.
