When I was a kid summers used to last forever, kind of like the Beach Boys “Endless Summer”, now the years just fly by. As I watch my daughter get ready for another year at FSU under very different circumstances I think about this more and more. Kind of like “Time In A Bottle By Jim Croce”.
That was an advantage (?) of growing up in the 60s—no AC, so you may as well stay outside. Also, a 3-month summer break meant you usually broke through the boredom stage and discovered plenty of stuff to do.
No AC here, always a little breeze and a lot of shade in the breezeway. When the year’s two weeks of heat arrive, I whisper, “This is what we dreamed of all winter,” and putter in the sunny yard. Fortunately that makes me sleepy in short order, so I can say “It’s too hot to work” and take a cozy tepid nap.

NEVER admit to boredom in summer, or mom will find you some chores to do for her. :P

It’s like they can fly. They don’t touch the ground until the third panel.

It usually took me ‘til August before I got to the "I’m bored" stage and then there was the looming specter of September and another school year.

I’m 68 and I’m still inside in front of the TV, just not sulking.

A little early to be sulking, don’t you think?

The allure of “Summertime!” vanishes almost as quickly as the heat reaches over 90º F. AC helps, I guess, but it always seems to me like cheating….
