It’s weird. I am sure I have missed words on spelling tests throughout my academic career, but I have a searing memory of a 4th grade test that has haunted me since I took it. It was one that I KNEW I was spelling the word wrong. I KNEW I knew how to spell it right, but I COULD NOT remember the right way to spell it, so I wrote it down wrong and I EVEN REMEMBER HOW I SPELLED IT WRONG! The word was “took” and I spelled it “tuke”. Don’t ask me why I remember this one and not any of the other misspelled words in my life. I wonder if it was because it was so easy and I couldn’t believe that I forgot how to spell it.
