One time, back when I worked at a department store we got in some new display counters and sold the old ones. The customer wanted some help getting the old display in their vehicle so I was called to help them. The old display was about eight feet long, four feet high and three feet deep with a glass top and front. I was expecting the customer to have a fairly large truck or van that could hold most of the display and then have a red hazard flag on the end where it stuck out behind the vehicle. Instead the customer had a four door sedan and thought the way to take the display home was to let the display stick out the rear driver’s side door while they drove home. I refused to do anything so stupid and advised the customer to come back with a truck or some kind of panel van large enough to handle the display and the customer demanded to speak with the manager. The manager came out, took one look at the customer’s vehicle and tried not to laugh when he heard how they planned to load the display and take it home, then agreed with me that they needed to come back with an appropriate vehicle for the job. My shift was over before the situation was actually resolved but apparently they found a way to get the display home.
