I remember my first encounter with a black hole. It was as if time stood still. It was radiant (according to Hawkings), attractive, and mysterious. But I had to get away. It was just too clingy.
Fun fact: assuming such a black hole can actually exist at such a small size (the Science Jury’s still out on that one), and we overlooked the potential radiation issues…this might actually be theoretically possible to do—keep an itty-bitty black hole more or less safely in a glass jar.
I don’t know why you’d want to, really, but beside the point.
How did I miss this gem when it came out?! I just now read it for the first time while re-reading WTB. That panel with the glass jar is the best- Thank you!

Usually, boats are referred to as black holes you throw money into. But, glass jars work too, if you’re dark enough about it.

Is it wrong that my favorite part about this strip is Mr. Ziggy’s rhyme?

Never did I think I’d see the phrase “theoretical mass” in the lyrics of a sea shanty.

I like that Wallace is invested enough in his own mythology that he’ll openly harass adults with it.

Hold onto those pennies, Wallace! There’s a National Coin Shortage.
And, if you believe that nonsense, I’ve got a nice baby black hole in a jar I’d let go for a bargain barrel price.

“Ziggy! Center me on Sam!” (I can smell the fish market and the sea just looking at this strip!)

It must be a primordial black hole that Hawkings theorized about.
