No, but if I had gotten my hands on the drunk that took out part of our front wall and moved the telephone pole 6 inches, I would have. Now you know he was flying if he moved a whole telephone pole! Of course the bars had just closed, and people fly up and down our road like bats out of HE–, which I’ve mentioned before. Usually they hit the neighbors hedge at the corner, this is the second time they got us. Came up over our neighbors yard, then hit our phone pole and landed on our wall, ripped the grass up trying to get out, and took off, left pieces of his pickup on the wall and in our yard, but I doubt they’ll find him. His pick-up must be in pretty bad shape though. The line he knocked out is stretched across the road, wrapped around our neighbor’s hedge across the street and ends up in another neighbors driveway. Supposedly the police reported it, but no one has been out to fix it yet. Or the pole!

Sorry to hear that Dry! Before I bought into LilG’s house I lived in the country on 38 acres of which about 2 acres was lawn and 5 pasture which I rented out. I lived on a corner of the highway that had you slow down from 50 to 20 and It was one of the few corners where you better be dang close to 20 if you wanted to stay on the road. My garage was hit twice a big tree twice and the last time I heard the crash at 2:30AM and dressed, grabbed a flashlight and went looking but couldn’t find any car, then as I passed the garage I saw the pasture fence was down and I saw headlights in the pasture. I walked over and there was a pickup on it’s roof with it’s contents scattered all over the place. I got to the pick up and their was a woman inside. I helped her get out, she wasn’t hurt, but she was extremely intoxicated. I took her into the house with her begging me not to call the police. I did, of course and it took them 45 minutes to get here along with a tow truck. She was arrested and I had to call the fellow to let him know that his horses needed to be loaded up until he could fix the fence. The next morning I saw that she had partially clipped my garage off of it’s foundation. Shortly after I sold the house a car took out the whole front of the house and the new owner lined his front yard in boulders.

Thanks cleo! Luckily we sit back from the road a bit, but the last time this happened, it was a young man who just got his driver’s license. He wasn’t drunk or on drugs, just came up the road too fast, clipped the back end of our Lumina. Luckily my oldest had our new Cobalt out at his place, or I have a feeling the back end of that would have gotten clipped too. I have a little minature rose bush at the end of the driveway, been there for YEARS, the lady we bought the house from planted it way back in the ‘60’s. Both times, they came close to that little bush but didn’t hit it. Our stone wall is about 4 1/2 feet high. All of our yards on my side of the road, slope upwards.

Glad you weren’t hurt either in those “mishaps” with your old place.

Guess no utility company is concerned with that downed wire. Still no one has come. We have discovered that the force of him? hitting the phone pole has tightened our electrical wires to the point where the slightest movement wind wise may pull them out of the house.

It wouldn’t do any harm to call the utility company yourself and the power company. Those lines could be dangerous.

That corner was something else. Cars would end up in our yard at least twice a year. I am amazed there wasn’t ever more damage done while I lived there. My garage was hit head on once. Only one person was injured. A bunch of biker’s were out on a run and one briefly landed in my yard where he hit a tree limb and threw him onto a gravel side road that led to my house and the houses back behind me. He was awake but had to be taken to the hospital.

There was an elementary school built on the corner kitty korner from me that was built a couple of years before I sold. Before it had been a big hay field and people were landing in it when they were going the other direction, just as often as my yard. When they built the school they built a decorative berm with native plantings. It served to act as a launching ramp propelling cars into the school parking lot. Shortly after the school opened a 16 year old girl actually hit the school itself, which was quite an accomplishment because the school was about a thousand yards from the corner.

I just called the power company, they say it isn’t their line, but will send someone out to check. Our neighbors cable is out, so she is going to call Comcast herself. I am surprised the phone company hasn’t been out, when the officer called in he read the number from the pole to his dispatcher.

Our neighbors at the corner have had their hedge removed in part at least 9 times since we’ve been here. The curve is not a severe curve, the speed limit coming up the hill is 25, people just drive like maniacs, and now that a lot of the farmland out the road has been sold off for housing developments more and more traffic goes up and down the road. When we first moved here, it was a very quiet street. Not anymore. One of the worst part is, the school district, in THEIR INFINITE WISDOM, but a bus stop right at that corner!

These things always happen on the weekend as well, which makes work crews less likely to arrive if it isn’t an emergency (cable).

Yes and they charge an arm and a leg for their service. These neighbors are senior citizens, watching TV is their entertainment, you know.

And you can bet that little PRIC K or PRICK ette has been down past here to check out the damage they did. Even though the police have pieces of the pick up, they will probably never find the culprit/s.

The power company is here now. The line that was down was a neutral line, which I guess if not fixed could have caused some major electrical problems. Comcast and the phone company have yet to make an appearance. Did you know all utility companies involved in these wires all have their “numbers” on a plaque attached to the phone pole. I’m sure JFri knew that.

And they caught him, DUI! He must have broken down further out the road. The officer left here and went in the direction of the person who hit and ran. Either that or the officer found the truck parked at a house.

Cool Dry! I am glad that they caught him. Maybe his insurance company will cover the damages. Does your state have compulsory insurance laws?

Yes, I too know about the numbers on the poles!

LilG’s daughter arrived from West Virginia where she met the love of her life. We haven’t seen her for over a year so it is nice having her around. They both went for a bike ride and the rest of her family will be here around 45 minutes from now. I am making dinner tonight and have also made granola. I was talking on the phone to a friend of mine in LA as I was putting my bread dough together and accidentally put my dough in the oven to rise at 275 degrees, which is the temp I cook the granola at, so during the 2 hour rise the bread partially cooked. I decided to see if I could make it work, it did not rise again and I got some dense baguettes but they still taste good. I am glad that I did not have to start again from scratch. Now I am putting dishes away from the dishwasher. I guess I am little miss domestic.

cleo you can come here anytime and be little miss domestic for me! Especially in the cooking department! :-)

I don’t have a dishwasher, I don’t mind washing dishes. I can look out my kitchen window if it’s light out and watch the birds and such. Right now we have a pair of mallard ducks that come up from the creek and visit once in a while. I love to see them, mallard ducks are so devoted to each other, just like mourning doves.

They are NOT phone poles, they are power poles. The cable & phone companies use the power poles because they are too stupid to learn how to make a proper ground wire system so they all “parasite” off the power company’s ground system. The best part is, a good ground is MUCH more critical for cable TV and telephone than they are for the power comany.

So those aren’t telephone poles? Why all these years have they been called telephone poles? Wouldn’t a good ground pole be just as important to the power companies, because of electrical shock, power outages, etc. I found it interesting that all the companies were listed on the pole. I never paid attention to that before. But he sure was moving to have moved that pole. I’m sure all the rain we had did loosen the soil a bit, but still. And just now, as I sit here, someone else went speeding up the road! Geez!

    Hola!

Dry We lived in a house at the bottom of a hill when I was growing up.

At least three cars hit us. The first time it hit the bedroom where my sister and I were sleeping. We weren’t hurt. Then the church put up a cast iron fence all around the property.

The next two cars manged to veer into the open gate for the driveway and take ut the corner of our garage. No one was in any of the cars- they all just rolled down the hill due to lack of good brakes.

Wow Shika! You and your sister were lucky! I’m glad we have that slope, it does help slow them down. And thank goodness our neighbors who usually get hit, have that big hedge because they have a pool a bit further back from there, and their kids and grandkids use that pool, but most of these accidents happen after dark. I think there was only one in daylight that I can recall. And no one was drunk, just going too fast and lost control on the turn, which really isn’t that much of a turn, people just don’t pay attention, and the police are never around when they are speeding. Or running the stop sign.
