Is Gordon really afraid he is going to “Hormone Attack!” Martha because she is shaped like a girl? Gordon has been around Martha before and acted normally without doing a “Hormone Attack!” I would think the main difficulty would be the awkward thing Mike has asked him to do. “Go to my girlfriend and tell her I am really mad at her because she didn’t write me a letter.” That’s not a message I would want to have to deliver.
Gordon, don’t just ask why she hadn’t written. Just say, “Hey Martha, seen Mike around?” and she might say no, and then say, “He sounded sad on the phone. I wonder what happened. Do you know?” Martha shakes her head. Then say, “He doesn’t want to see me – his best bud. Something is up. He’s upset about something.” Guilt her into going to see him.
This is quite typical of teenage behavior. I would guess that most of us here can remember someone in our circle of friends or even ourselves pulling something like this. “Tell Susie that Fred says he really likes her.”
Lets see. How can Martha get out of this? Oh, yeah. Michael put the wrong return address on his letters. Or, he put no return address. Yeah, as a guy I know. Out of sight out of mind. She met another guy.

I hate this in-between friend stuff. If you are dating and she does something you don’t like, confront her yourself.

This could be taking friendship a little too far.

Hear me, why you keep fooling, Little Coquette,
Making fun of the one who loves you?
Breaking hearts you are ruling, Little Coquette,
True hearts tenderly dreaming of you…

Let’s admit it folks. Martha has dumped Mike. All guys have been dumped at least once (except you of course).

Edmond Rostand knew how this sort of thing often works out.

Having someone intervene is trouble, get the guts and go yourself or she will end up with Gordo.

Mike how is Gordon to ask her when he does not know her that well.

Mike is growing into the standard male stereotype: sub-zero ability or wish to communicate, but desperate need to do so.

Mike – what is wrong with you? Can’t take the idea of rejection? If you want her, you need to go talk to her. If not, let it go.
