Reminds me of the little girl who answered the phone and it was their pastor. Mom was in the kitchen trying to get ketchup out of the bottle by hitting the bottom of the bottle and the little girl told the pastor “Mom’s in the kitchen hitting the bottle.”
Most Jolly Jumpers I have seen have a clamp that you use to clamp around the top of the door frame. I have never seen one that you screw directly into the frame like that.
There’s an old Family Circus where one of the boys tells a caller, “She can’t come to the phone right now. She’s in the shower with the plumber.” Mom is seen helping the plumber hang a new shower curtain rod. Still funny today!
I was helping my neighbor wallpaper her bathroom. With five young kids, we had locked the bathroom door to keep one of them from opening it and knocking me off the step ladder. I heard the doorbell, and heard someone ask if her mommy was home. “Yes, but she’s locked in the bathroom with Mrs. Wertz.”
A Jolly Jumper. Those are now banned. Stupid thing to do. They helped babies learn to stand. If the parent was right there ( as they should be) there was no chance of injury. But…sociologists say they were dangerous. Bull feathers.

The Patterson’s must have missed parenting class the night they discussed putting the baby in the swing after it’s been hung.

That’s about like the mom trying to get ketsup out and the kid told that she was “hitting the bottle.”

Okay, this is where rumors start and how child services get involved. John having an affair. Ella hanging the baby. It all piles up.

If it’s someone who knows the Pattersons well, then they’ll understand what Elizabeth meant.
