Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an elevator in real life with one of those pointing arrows to indicate the floor that it’s on. But anything that helps the Horace elevators do tricks.
“…He said that the geometry of the dream-place he saw was abnormal, non-Euclidean, and loathsomely redolent of spheres and dimensions apart from ours…like a great barn-door; and they all felt that it was a door because of the ornate lintel, threshold, and jambs around it, though they could not decide whether it lay flat like a trap-door or slantwise like an outside cellar-door…he was swallowed up by an angle of masonry which shouldn’t have been there; an angle which was acute, but behaved as if it were obtuse…” H.P.L. “Call of Cthulhu” (1926)
Another example of the weirdness the builders have put into the Escher building Horace works in. Bizarre transmogrifying multi-dimensional structure found all over the universe made by the same Yong-Thulhu Co. of Leng. And apparently in the city that Horace spends his time in earning a paycheck. (Any city we know?)

Pushing the button turned it up ninety degrees? Then why don’t I feel any warmer?

I am inclined to decline a ride on these elevators.

He went to an Imaginary floor. And I’d like to visit that building one day.
