I’ve always wondered about that. I have a machine in the kitchen that washes my dishes and then dries them. Why can’t they invent a laundry machine that does both?
Wonder why your “high efficiency” wash machine has cycles twice as long as the old ones? Just your government doing what they do. “We may not imagine how our lives could be more frustrating and complex—but Congress can.” —Cullen Hightower
Not really. For my machines, the dryer takes longer than the washer, and I would assume that’s the usual case, as it makes sense. Washing is a faster process than drying.
So, what would you do to make them finish at the same time? Speed up the dryer? That would require making it hotter, which could ruin the clothes, or degrade them faster. Make the wash take longer? That’s wasteful, and accomplishes nothing since you still need to wait on the dryer. It’s not as if you can switch one without switching the other. So just look at it as waiting on the dryer only, and go do something else while you wait…

It used to be that way, until I got one of those He machines. The cycles run a lot longer.

Maybe, but you have to remember that they were designed by the same guy who packages hot dogs and their buns.

A watched machine never finishes a cycle!

You can always get a dual machine that washes then dries in the same tube so when it’s done it’s done.

Do worry about the cycle times, just go watch cat videos.
