I remember feeling like this when I was teaching English in Japan—not being completely connected to the society but also feeling safe to walk the streets and just be myself. When I visit Osaka now, I think more people are accustomed to seeing foreigners. It makes me hope more Black people will travel and explore the world when everything opens back up again. Even a little break from your home country can be good.
Way back when I had a job, my mother and I became world-travelers of sorts. We mainly traveled with travel groups (Trafalga, Cosmos, etc.).
We enjoyed our journeys together, but I can’t tell you how much fun it was explaining where Bermuda was. Even in LONDON, ENGLAND. We’re a British colony! C’mon! … But shopping in Harrod’s made up for it.
