My parents and my in-laws were always fighting/arguing/or giving each other the ‘silent treatment,’ so my husband and I had to look to others for inspiration. However, the parental behaviour we saw while growing up made us both feel like they were something very wrong and we didn’t want to emulate THAT. We’re currently in year 43, and still get along well. It helps that we were best friends before we got serious in our late teens. We knew a lot about one another, and have few if any secrets between us. Our greatest compliment was when my eldest called to tell me that he found someone just like me (they got married 3 years later, and have one child). And, she sure is like me, right down to the stubborn streak. LOL. :D

Don’t look for the one you want to go to bed with. Look for the One you want to wake up with. It really worked for me!

Hubby had awful role models; his mum was married 3 times to utter jerks, and his father remarried a woman who was not very nice to him or his siblings. Yet somehow, he is the absolutely greatest husband in the world. He is, in spite of it all, a wonderful husband.
