Not even super powers can get you through a locked closet door.

Ah the precursor to Spaceman Spiff. Best comic in the whole entire universe. I hear it’s a hit in the Andromeda Galaxy.

When older, married Calvin is in this character when he wakes up next to his wife, she could say, “I love the smell of Napalm in the morning.”

Would anybody with superhuman powers need to call his mommy, Calvin? Better stick to being Spaceman Spiff.

Calvin has a lock on getting into tight spots. If he had gone into the closet to change into Captain Plainclothesman, Calvin might have figured out how to get out without help.

Curiously, this kind of situation does not seem to befall Calvin as the strip matures. He remains vulnerable to the weaknesses of his character, but not to the weaknesses of his child-ness.

I got stuck in an outside bathroom at a gas station this past winter. There was ice around the door and when I slammed the door closed, the metal strip fell off the bottom and jammed the door. It took twenty minutes before I heard someone jiggle the doorknob and go for help. Ten minutes later I was hugging the gas station attendant who was visibly worn out, freeing me with a crowbar and a hammer!

I did this once. When I was very young I was playing with our storm door with a lock and got my Innocent sister in trouble when I locked myself out. I never said I did the deed let my sister take the blame.

Was this “Captain Napalm’s” debut? If so, getting himself locked in a closet was not a very auspicious beginning for this particular super-hero!!!!! ;-)
