Nowadays bullies are most definitely NOT in fashion. Most politically uncorrect. It does my heart good – I never thot the issue of bullying would be addressed.
Calvin needs to learn the proper response to bullies: a finger in the eye, a knee in the groin, and a brick to the back of the head. Hey, it always worked for me!
I like how Calvin handles him after this—“Is your monosyllabic vocabulary the result of your berserk pituitary gland?” Long pause. Huh? “Isn’t he great, folks! Let’s give him a hand!”
Poor Calvin. The school’s all over him whenever he gets in trouble, but they apparently do nothing to stop Moe from bullying Calvin every chance he gets. That being said, it’s nice to read comics from a simpler, more innocent time. In real life, people would worry about a kid like Calvin (no human friends, lives in a fantasy world, bullied) bringing a gun to school. In this strip, though, all they have to worry about is Calvin bringing his stuffed tiger, the Avenging Furball of Doom, to teach Moe a lesson.
All the bullies in our class mellowed with age. I’m friends or atleast we’ve reconciled our differences since high school. I had to work with a handful of them over the years making that a strange work environment.
Calvin needs to befriend someone like a teacher who will be on his side the next time Moe threatens him, or, at the very least, a kid much larger and stronger than Moe who is loyal to Calvin and would defend him something fierce….generally this is the only way guys like Moe learn anything, if they do at all….
a lot of people here saying Calvin should get a bigger boy to take on Moe. does anyone remember a very underrated comedy called “My Bodyguard” which starred Christopher Makepeace?
The Moes of this world can sometimes grow up to be real adult psychopaths. I’ve certainly met a few who had virtually no morals whatsoever, and were just in it for the power and glory. Everyone else was just collateral damage. A few were highly religious. That was theirj ustification. They were so superior, it didn’t matter what happened to you. I wonder if Moe will grow up to be somebody quite powerful in religion, or just a psychopath crimminal who doesn’t care about anyone but himself, not that the two career paths are very different in my experience?
