When a border collie or Aussie first show up at the dog park they try to herd all the dogs and people into one spot. After a few tries they realize it is futile and give up!
My husband had a Springer Spaniel as a kid. When they moved from their 5 acre “farm” into the city (to a small house on a city lot), the dog scratched the backdoor into splinters, wanting to be out and about. They had to replace the door, and rehome the dog to live in the country again. “Dunky” was not a dog for lying about on the sofa. :D
Every border collie I’ve known or owned had to have a job to keep them out of trouble. We have a border collie beagle cross my daughter came home with 12 years ago. When he sees us coming down the driveway, he has to run whatever is close out of the way. Sheep (when we had them), chickens guineas, deer, squirrels, other dogs, doesn’t matter. I’ve even seen him try to chase the buzzards out of the way if they were close to the ground.

Show him a sheep. He’ll know what to do.

My border collie mix used to try and herd my grandchildren by nipping at their little elbows.
