I’ve played classical guitar since the mid-sixties. As far as I know the bass guitar was originally the stand-up (4-string) bass violin and was converted to the electric bass so that rock groups didn’t have to play or lug around that huge instrument. The playing styles are very different and require a solid understanding of harmony, since that is the main function of the bass in a group, from punk band to string quartet. Also, the classical guitar is played with nylon strings, and the bass with metal strings, which would cause serious damage to a classical guitarists fingertips. I read an account where Groucho Marx, who was dabbling with classical guitar music, asked Andreas Segovia to play something on Groucho’s guitar which was strung with metal strings. Segovia politely refused, citing the danger to his fingertips. Groucho subsequently switched to nylon strings. Anyway, my point is: that talented little boy, (by his own admission “Up to now I’ve mostly played classical guitar”), is unlikely to know how to play the bass, risk his carefully cultivated fingertip calluses, or even own a bass guitar.

Stand by. Original plan changed. One ‘Punk-Blues’ band, coming up.
“Feeling so low again todayyyy….Guess them “Blues” are back in town.
I’m gonna cut it’s head off like a chicken,…. and bury it deep, 6 feet underground!
Yea, yea, yea!"

It’s tough to be rebellious when you’re from a stable and supportive home…but it’s not that bad either, Phoebe! :D

I worked days so I had to practice my classic tuba at night; MY parents weren’t supportive at all…
