We bought a catered dinner for Thanksgiving, but still qualified for our free turkey from the super market and their promotion. We just had it last week. My wife cooked it while I was at work. When I went to carve it, I saw she had cooked it upside down! Wings up, drumsticks down. Of course none of the skin on the “top” browned because it was in the juices. We still have an ongoing debate about whether there is a top to a turkey!
I cooked my first Thanksgiving turkey when I was 16. No problems. The only problem anyone should have is if the oven breaks. Seriously, there are directions in cookbooks (which is what I used back in the 1970s), on the packaging of some brands (at least there were back then), all over the internet for the past 20+ years, and there’s even a Butterball hotline.
I think 90% of turkey prep problems comes from people freaking out because they think its hard.
First year after my ex & I broke up, and before I started spending Thanksgiving with a college friend & his family, I had a frozen pizza. It was great!

The obvious solution, is to have hame, a much easier dish to prepare.
