Dad: I feel bad for you, your ilk and your plastic play structures. Dad: Our playgrounds were made out of cold, hard steel! It wasn't officially summer 'til someone broke their arm on the monkey bars! Dad: And each year the fifth graders used the merry-go-round to teach the first graders all about centrifugal force!! Dad: And the slide wasn't enclosed in a safety tube! Your coordination alone, kept you from flying off into space! Dad: The brave would run up the slide and the bold would scale the underbelly!! Dad: And those slides would get red hot baking in the sun! Dad: You can have your crummy internet! I want a metal slide!!

Those were the good ol’ days of playing in the park or school yard.

And there were seesaws where someone (yes, me included) always got their jaw whacked when the other side sat down too quickly. There aren’t many seesaws or merry-go-rounds any more.

A metal slide and a roll of waxed paper. Sigh… Those were the days.

Someone pushed me off of one of those slides back in elementary school. I blacked out momentarily. Good times.

The park near me during my childhood had a sandbox, swings, slides, seesaws, monkey bars, and, during the summer, an enclosed space where you could get wet from shower heads and splash in the water that pooled in the middle. Another park I visited had the same thing but the water was deeper and you could pretend to swim. None of them had merry-go-rounds though.

ow about the big tubes that you walked in that rotated around if you got enough momentum going. . .

@ kfaatz925 and pinkdryad:
The wax paper used on a metal slide was similar to waxing your surfboard or skiis…less friction, more speed…in theory, anyway.

There are too many crazy people that think merry go rounds are too dangerous for kids…I loved those things growing up and now they are being removed from playgrounds all over the place because some overprotective parent worries that their kid will get hurt :( When did a kid getting a scratch on his knee become a bad thing?
