Amen, hated those nasty things. We use LEDs and incandescent only. Most workplaces are switching to LED strips replacing the florescent bulbs as they go bad. They fit right in the fixtures most of the time. The common complaint according to my husband (the electrician) is that they are too bright. So he counsels the buyer to get the warm ones.
Stores that sell CFL’s are supposed to take them accept them for disposal. I dropped a pack off at the Walmart service desk only to watch in horror as the associate threw them in the trash barrel. I’ve also bought new ones only to find someone put a box of burned out bulbs back on the shelf.

I had one of those CFLs explode in flames. I removed all of them from my house. I’m hoping that LEDs won’t do that.

Our local hardware store takes CFLs, old paint, etc., so I don’t have to deal with it.
