Many years ago, I, a Staff Sergeant, was trying to keep watch on a Major who was trying to use the office copier. I got distracted for a moment but then I heard a noise. I looked back in time to see this Major dropping the toner cartridge. He thought it was out of toner when his copy didn’t print, so he was going to refill it. The once-full cartridge had spilled its contents in a huge, sticky black cloud. The copier, the alcove it was in, the Major and everything else in the vicinity was covered in that fine dusty toner. The secretary and I banned the Major from ever touching the copier again and sent him home to get cleaned up while we tried to clean up the mess. And the document he was trying to copy? He had put his original in upside down!

When I was working in the school system (I was the librarian, and I’m now retired), whenever the copier jammed or wouldn’t work (or anything else mechanical wouldn’t work), the teachers would always call on me to come and fix it for them. Good thing I take after my Dad, and I’m good with mechanical things. Anything I didn’t know how to fix, I knew who to call who’d come right out and fix it.
